so this vacation has been pretty nice. i suppose it's wrapping up here. i tried not to work for PlayMotion too much. worked on a PlayMotion-related project and learned some things about my new computer, which has been cool.

i also worked like a slave for my mom and for my dad (physical labor vs. computer work) and for my grandparets, 3/5 of whom are moving in to new 'retirement communities' and need people to lift barges and tote bales and organize and generally boss around. i don't know how i feel about all the retirement community business. i think it depends on how old you are. my dad's mom is going to do fine at the new place because she's still pretty spry, but my mom's parents don't care too much about interacting with anyone (making friends) at the place and so it's mostly a prison.

mom asked me to smother her in her sleep on her 75th birthday. she's really not happy about her parents' current state.

also, mom and dad are trying to unload all their shit on me. i've already gathered another table (bringing me up to 6, i think) and a mirror from my mom. i think that my dad wants me to take all of his stereo stuff (amp, preamp, turntable, records, speakers). i really need a bigger place.

i actually made printers go in unix. that was cool. but then i went to the mac and asked something to print. and without ever having configured anything, the system went out and found a printer and asked if i wanted to use it (zeroconf is incredible). i said yes, and stuff popped out of the printer. why can't printing work like that everywhere? as a result, i've decided to adopt a project to improve the zeroconf support under unix. there's just no reason why it shouldn't be there. it's magic.
